What to Do If You Lose Something on the GO Train

Losing something on the GO Train can be stressful and may turn your smooth journey into a worrisome experience., but don’t worry! You can still get your lost item back if you follow the right steps quickly. Here’s a simple guide to help you recover your belongings from GO Transit.

Step 1: Stay Calm and Think

First, don’t panic. Try to recall where you last had the item. Did you leave it on the seat? In the luggage rack? Or maybe near the door while getting off? Thinking clearly will help you take the next step.

Step 2: Check Immediately

If you are still at the station or near the train, you can try checking the train again if it hasn’t left. Sometimes, the item may still be there. If the train has already departed, move to the next step.

Step 3: Contact GO Transit Customer Service

As soon as possible, call GO Transit Lost and Found. The sooner you report, the better your chances of finding your item.

📞 Call: 1-888-438-6646 (GO Transit Helpline)
🕐 Timings: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
📍 Lost & Found Location: Union Station, Toronto

If you lost your item in the evening or on a weekend, you might need to wait until the next business day to check with Lost and Found.

Step 4: Submit a Lost Item Report Online

If you can’t call, you can also report your lost item online. Visit the official GO Transit website and fill out the Lost & Found Form. Mention all details clearly:

  • What you lost (phone, bag, wallet, etc.)
  • Train route and time
  • Where you think you left it (seat, washroom, luggage area, etc.)
  • Your contact details

Step 5: Visit GO Transit Lost & Found

Items found on GO trains and buses and at stations and terminals are sent to Lost and Found office.

If GO Transit finds your item, they will keep it at Union Station’s Lost & Found. You can visit there and collect it. Make sure to carry your ID and describe the item properly. To claim your item, you’ll need to provide ID and proof of ownership, such as the number of a lost cell phone or the password for a laptop computer.

If you can’t get to in-person, someone can claim the item on your behalf if you give their name, or you can call a courier service to set up a pre-paid pick-up from Go transit office.

It usually takes around five business days for a lost item to be brought to Transit office, and they will hold it for 30 calendar days. Finally they donate unclaimed items.
